Sitting in a classroom and still unsure about what is being taught? Don’t worry, you’re not the lone one going through this. Most of us as a student are now transforming as the consumers of facts. Despite of the advancement in almost every field, we still struggle to be the active creators of knowledge. Even the teaching methodology is still that old “show and tell” process . Then, who need to be the hero in this despair? The expert who facilitate the knowledge to make learning more dynamic is the teacher. Here are the five ways how teachers can change this “trade scenario” of education :
1. CATALYST FOR LEARNING :
Learning doesn’t consist merely of lecturing to students who sit in rows to dutifully listen and record what they hear but also offers every student a rich and unique learning experience. The learning environment shouldn’t be confined to the classroom but also extends into the house and the society to nurture the world around the student. Knowledge shouldn’t be bound only in books, it needs to be available everywhere possible in bits and bytes. Students should be no more the consumers of facts instead they should transform themselves into active creators of knowledge. Schools, colleges, training centres etc aren’t just the brick-and-mortar structures instead they are the pivot of lifelong learning. Most importantly , teaching is referred to as one of the most challenging and respected profession and an absolute catalyst to the social, cultural and economic health of any nation. We need to seed such a dramatic transformation in education system. Institution itself needs to be prompted by the massive revolutions in knowledge, information technology, and public demand for better learning that are slowly but surely restructuring themselves
2. PRODUCTIVE CLASSROOM LEARNING:
Since years, teaching was considered as a combination of information dispensing, custodial student care and to sort out those academically inclined students from other who struggled to organize in the class. The traditional model for all institutes was an education factory in which adults who are to be paid hourly or daily wages and kept like-aged youngsters have to sit still for the so called standardized lessons and exams. The place where teachers are strictly told what, when and how to teach. They are responsible to educate every student in exactly the same way throughout the course and are not held responsible when many failed to learn that “standard syllabus” . Not only this, but also they are expected to teach using the exactly same methods as past generations did use and any deviation from traditional teaching methodology are discouraged by supervisors or are prohibited by myriad education laws. In turn, many teachers just simply stood in front of the whole class and deliver the same lessons year after year and also, growing gray and weary of not being allowed to change what they were doing sadly. They well understand that the essence of education and it’s process is a close relationship between a knowledgeable-caring teacher and a secure as well as motivated student. They need to grasp that their most important job is to get to know each student as an individual and not a group of standard students , in order to comprehend his or her unique learning style, social and cultural background, interests, and abilities they inhibits.Their role is to counsel students as they grow and matu which would help them to integrate their social, emotional, and intellectual growth. Such that, the union of these could separate dimensions that yields the abilities to seek, understand and then, use that knowledge to make better decisions in their personal life and to give their value contributions to society.
3. 24*7 CONSULTANT :
The facilitators of knowledge must be prepared and permitted to intervene at any time and in any way to make sure learning occurs efficiently. Rather than seeing themselves solely as the masters of subjects such as history, math or science; teachers should understand that they must also inspire a love for learningin their students. Even the students work harder when teachers give them a responsibility in determining the form of their training and help them to create their own learning plans so that they decide the ways in which they will demonstrate that they have learned what they agreed to learn. The daily job of a teacher instead of broadcasting content should be the one for designing and guiding students through various engaged learning opportunities. The teacher’s most important responsibility is to search out for and construct meaningful learning experiences that allow students to solve those real-world problems and to know how to show that they have learned the powerful skills and habits of mind and heart that should be an agreed-on educational standards. This would result in abstract and inert knowledge that students used to memorize from dusty textbooks find life as they participate in the creation and extension of that new knowledge in real world scenario.
4. NOT ONLY AS A TUTOR BUT A LIFE COACH :
We should consider the teacher not only as a tutor but a life coach which would give rise to the new relationship between teachers and students that takes the form of a different concept of instructions. Th teachers should tune in to how students really learn the facts so that many teachers could reject teaching that is merely a lecture based in favor of instruction .The teacher would no longer see their primary role as being the king or queen of the class but as a benevolent dictator deciding what would be the best for the powerless unsecured students in their care. The most powerful forces changing teacher’s and student’s roles in education is the new technology. The traditional model of instruction was mostly predicated upon information scarcity. These models included majorily the teachers and their books as information oracles to spread knowledge.
5. RELATIVENESS AND FEEDBACK :
Teachers need also to spend time researching various questions regarding educational effectiveness that would expand the understanding of the dynamics of learning. The more the teachers are busy in spending time mentoring new members of their profession ,the more it would help in making sure that the student graduates are truly ready for facing the complex challenges of the real world. The need of the hour is in reinventing the role of teachers inside as well as outside the classroom so it could result in significantly better institutes and better educated students.
Obviously, there may be many solutions but these five were the most precise and straightforward ways. Not only the teacher, but the student also needs to take actions towards this. All the professions existing in the world , whether big or small , orginates from the place where they learned ” HOW TO LEARN” . Teachers today, should be encouraged to adapt and adopt the various new methods that acknowledge both the art and science of learning and hence, expanding the horizons. As aristole once qouted that” Those that know, do. Those that understand, teach. “
